FOX45 Investigates the Sale of Synthetic Marijuana

Following a FOX45 investigation last November, Maryland lawmakers are looking to outlaw what we uncovered. FOX45 continues to investigate the sale of synthetic marijuana and how the sale of it has spread to the suburbs and can be credited for two deaths in Carroll County.
FOX45’s undercover investigation found synthetic marijuana being sold at a tobacco store in Westminster, and another local gas station.
DEA agents admit even with federal bands chemists are managing to stay one step ahead. Drug abuse experts have seen the changes. They have changed out chemicals and altered packaging with each generation brining a new level of toxicology along with it.
In Pennsylvania one male required a double lung transplant because of chemical burns. His family says it was the synthetic marijuana he was smoking that caused the damage.
In Carroll County, a 13-year-old and a 22-year-old have died in the last several months, each found with packets of synthetic marijuana next to them.
Delegate Cathleen Vitale is one of the several lawmakers fighting to end the sale of the designer drug in Maryland.
