A 62-year-old man has been found guilty of raping a 5-year-old Glen Burnie girl.
James Lawyer Sr. on Monday was found guilty of Child Abuse, two counts of Second-Degree Sex Offense, three counts of Third-Degree Sex Offense and Second-Degree Rape.
A release from State's Attorney Anne Colt Leitess said the incidents of abuse took place at a Glen Burnie residence over a three-year period beginning in 1997, when the victim was 5 years old. According to the release the victim reported the abuse last year, at age 21.
"This case reminds us that most child sexual offenders prey upon children that they know," Leitess said. "It also serves as an important reminder to parents and caregivers to have a conversation with their children, even at a young age, of what is appropriate touching and that even a person they know and trust needs to obey those boundaries."
Lawyer's bond was revoked. He will be held at the AACO Detention Center until sentencing on August 25.
