Approximately 15,000 people attended the grand opening of Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore Tuesday night, two years after the grand opening of Maryland’s other powerhouse casino, Maryland Live.
It remains to be seen how the new downtown casino will affect the business of the Anne Arundel County casino. Just based on numbers alone Horseshoe has 2,500 video slot machines and more than 100 table games. Maryland Live has almost double the table games and over 3,000 slot machines.
Though Horseshoe will be able to capitalize on city events, such as Orioles Games, Ravens game and an upcoming Navy football game, management is aware of safety concerns that come with a downtown setting.
The casino has partnered with the Baltimore City police department and has 3 on-duty officers at all times, plus security outside and an officer on every floor of the parking garage.
