A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for parts of northern and southern Maryland on Friday. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) the "dangerous" line of storms is capable of producing hail up to the size of quarters and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph.
"At 1206 pm EST severe thunderstorms were detected along a line extending from 11 miles west of Saint Clements bay to 12 miles southwest of Breton Bay to 26 miles southwest of Saint Clements bay and were moving northeast at 65 mph," NWS said.
Affected Maryland counties comprise St. Mary's County, Southern Calvert County, Harford County, Baltimore County, Baltimore City, Northern Anne Arundel County and Eastern Howard County. The warning is in effect until 1PM EST.
"This is a dangerous line of storms," NWS said. "If you are in its path move indoors to a sturdy building and stay away from windows...This line of storms is producing frequent cloud to ground lightning. If you can hear thunder you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move indoors immediately."
