After one Howard County family unexpectedly lost their son, what happened to them next can only be described as outrageous, painful and another crushing loss.
Aaron Reed, a 21-year-old music lover from Columbia moved to Buffalo, NY. On January 26, Reed died after returning home from work. Despite having a minor heart condition, the exact cause of death is still unknown.
After Brian Reed, Aaron's father, drove to New York to bring his possessions back to Maryland, they were stolen from the family van parked in front of their home. A Fender Stratocaster, Aaron's most prized possession, was among the items stolen.
"Those are extensions of Aaron," Brian said. "It was like when we lost that equipment, we lost a part of Aaron that we thought we had. It was really heartbreaking."
Howard County police are investigating the theft and Aaron's devastated parents are issuing this plea to the thief: they just want the guitar returned, no questions asked.
Aaron's family has set up a non-profit called The Pick Me Up Foundation, which provides music resources to underprivileged children.
