Man Accused of Strangling Woman With Bra Before Attempting to Set Her on Fire

Police have arrested a man who is alleged to have punched and kicked a woman while holding a knife to her throat, before cutting off her clothes and strangling her with her bra until she passed out.
Anthony Carel Wood of Ft. Washington is also alleged to have stood over the victim, dousing her with gasoline as she regained consciousness, and lighting matches that he threw at her but which went out before reaching the victim. The victim was able to escape.
Wood was arrested on two arrest warrants for Attempted First Degree Murder and Assault Second Degree that were both obtained by police on June 28 and July 8, 2014.
Deputies found Wood at a residence in the 1700 block of Brightseat Rd. in Landover, Md., where he was taken into custody without incident. He is also charged with Unauthorized Removal of Property, and Malicious Destruction of Property.
