Baltimore Police have charged a 19-year-old Parkville woman in the fatal beating of her 21-month-old son.
Cierra Curtis was arrested and charged on July 10 with second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, child abuse and neglect of a minor.
According to charging documents, officers were conducting a traffic stop in the 5800 block of Reisterstown Road on June 30 at around 11:50 p.m. when they heard a woman screaming about her baby. Curtis ran from the Red Carpet Inn and stated to officers, "I swear I'm not a bad mother, my baby's not breathing."
Curtis' boyfriend then ran towards officers carrying the child, later identified as Jayden Curtis. The child was gasping for air so the officers began performing CPR. Despite performing CPR, officers advised that the child became cold to the touch and unresponsive. The child was taken to Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 12:38 a.m.
On July 1, an autopsy was performed on Jayden and the medical examiner ruled his death to be a homicide by multiple injuries from blunt force trauma.
Curtis is currently being held at Baltimore City Central Booking and Intake Facility.
