The victim of Wednesday's fatal East Baltimore fire on Lakewood Avenue was an eight-year-old boy, fire officials confirmed Thursday.
Troy Douglas was walking home from school when a portion of the rowhome collapsed on top of him. Nearby residents reported hearing a "boom," but officials have not yet confirmed whether an explosion was responsible for the fire.
According to AP, Baltimore Fire spokesperson Ian Brennan said school had just let out at William Paca Elementary School about two blocks away just before the fire.
The fire department announced it was on the scene of the fire around 3 p.m. on Wednesday. Three patients, including one child, were transported to a hospital. The deceased victim was recovered from the rubble around 4:30 p.m.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
