The U.S. men's hockey team has beaten Team Russia in an exciting Group A preliminary round game 3-2, in a shootout. T.J. Oshie of the St. Louis Blues scored the winning goal in overtime as Russian President Vladimir Putin watched from the stands. Oshie scored four times in the shootout and got the winner in the eighth round.
International rules allow the same player to take multiple shots after the first three rounds of a shootout, and Oshie was the choice of the U.S. squad. The St. Louis forward went 4 for 6 against Russian goalie Sergei Bobrovsky.
U.S. goalie Jonathan Quick faced 31 shots in the game and turned back 29.
The U.S. tops the group with 5 points while the Russians are second with 4.
