A transportation research group recently found that almost half of Maryland's roads are in desperate need of repair.
The state's transportation trust fund has taken a beating over the
years, now lawmakers who drained more than a billion dollars from the
fund want the taxpayers to refill it.
There is proposed legislation that would cost drivers an extra 10 cents per-gallon of gas, plus a double digit increase for emission inspections and vehicle registration fees.
Supporters say the new taxes and fees could pump 400-million dollars into the state's depleted transportation trust fund.
