IN THE NEWS: TOP OFFICIAL SAYS US FACES CYBERTHREATS

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A top White House official says the U.S. faces what he calls "serious and significant" threats against cyberspace. And the top counterterrorism adviser says those threats, if realized, could compromise national security. John Brennan is President Barack Obama's top man when it comes to getting information to combat terrorism. And on NBC's "Meet The Press," Brennan says the administration is looking at the matter from both an espionage and terrorism point of view. Brennan isn't naming any country or individuals who might be behind such cyberattacks -- but lately there have been concerns that computer hackers in China have been able to infiltrate computer networks.

IN THE NEWS: FLORIDA SHERIFF'S OFFICE USING FACEBOOK TO TRACK SUSPECTS

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Imagine finding out someone you've "friended" on FaceBook is being sought by the authorities. It could happen if an idea being used by one central Florida sheriff's office starts catching on elsewhere. Alachua sheriff's lieutenant Steve Maynard says his office is using Facebook to catch people who have outstanding warrants. Maynard says putting the names and pictures of those wanted will create peer pressure to make some people turn themselves in. The office has a backlog of 14,000 outstanding warrants. Maynard says he got the idea from another agency, whose Facebook traffic rose dramatically after they began posting warrants online.
