Comment: Put an innocent 6 year old away while known thugs go free. You've got to draw the line somewhere. from Pasadena, Md. by Tony

Comment: the parent had packed his lunch should had known not to include that kind of utensil in it. DUH!!!!

Comment: Don't they have knives, forks and spoons for the students to use when they buy lunches? What the student had may to some people have been a weapon but I am sure that was not his intent. from Union Bridge, MD by Paul

Comment: you have to have some common sense & discretion in these matters, the only thing ever written in stone was the ten commandments. from reisterstown,md by nat

Comment: Zero tolerance policies are only necessary to protect the school systems. If parents took responsibility for the actions of their children rather than threaten legal action zero tolerance policies would not be necessary. from b by Steve

Comment: Yes, but in this society of "don't punish the children" for fear of ruining their lives, we don't know what zero tolerence is. Zero tolerance is if you do wrong, you get taken out back in the parking lot and get beaten to within an inch of your life like the foreign prisons do. That would be very effective. from timonium / md by Jim

Comment: Although they are effective in some of the cases, they also need to apply common sense. which at times they seem to lack. from Glen Burnie, Md. by Joseph

Comment: zero tolerance, leaves common sense out and that is bad policy from Glen Burnie MD by James
