A string of sexual assaults in Baltimore City has police warning of a possible serial rapist.

Eight attacks have been reported since Oct. 20, when a man entered a home in the 1700 block of Barclay St. and sexually assaulted a woman while her boyfriend was bound and gagged.

Five days later, another similar break-in happened in the 300 block of East Lafayette street just two blocks away from the Barclay home.

Police are looking for a connection in some of the attacks, including two that occurred at bus stops within 48 hours.

The bus stop attacks in the Eastern district were just two of five rapes that occurred over the Halloween weekend.

Police are calling them isolated incidents, but say they're not ruling out the possibility that the attacks could be related.

Law enforcement has been stepped up in the Eastern district and officers are combing through sex offender registries.

Jury says deliberations heated in mayor's trial
November 20, 2009 17:21 EST

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Jurors in the theft trial of Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon were dismissed for the weekend after sending a note to the judge saying deliberations were getting heated.

Jurors deliberated until about 3:45 p.m. Friday before sending the note saying "things are getting a little overheated" and asking to be dismissed. The jury received the case about midday Thursday.

Prosecutors say Dixon used gift cards intended for the needy on personal shopping sprees. The defense says the mayor's then-boyfriend anonymously gave Dixon gift cards for her own use, and she thought gift cards from another developer came from her boyfriend. She's also accused of taking cards from a holiday charity event run by the city.
