Baltimore `czar' to help woo Google broadband
March 11, 2010 20:10 EST
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Baltimore has appointed a `Google czar' to help attract the search engine company's broadband pilot project to Charm City.
Mountain View, Calif.-based Google says it plans to offer ultrahigh speed broadband networks in one or more locations across the United States, prompting efforts by a number of cities to host the pilot project.
Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake named Tom Loveland, chief executive officer of technology company Mind Over Machines, as the city's volunteer "Google Czar" on Thursday. Loveland will work with the Mayor's Office of Economic Development and Neighborhoods to submit Baltimore's proposal to Google by the March 26 deadline.
The mayor also announced that athletic apparel maker Under Armour Inc. will provide marketing help.
