Worcester tourism head wants to keep OC funds
March 10, 2010 08:14 EST
SNOW HILL, Md. (AP) -- Worcester County's tourism director wants the county to keep the money it usually gives Ocean City to market the resort.
Tourism Director Lisa Challenger is proposing the county commissioners reallocate the $270,000 budgeted to Ocean City to the county's own advertising fund, which has remained at $150,000 since 2007.
Challenger says Ocean City is included in all the county's advertising and the county could make a big impact with the money. Without the additional funding, she says the department's $430,000 budget would have to be trimmed, making it harder to promote the county.
Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan says the town would object to the proposal.
Commissioners have made no decision but say they will consider the proposal during the budget process.
