Caleb Joseph Becomes First Orioles Catcher to Homer in Five Straight Games

Updated: Saturday, August 9 2014, 07:11 PM EDT

On Saturday Caleb Joseph became the first Orioles rookie and the first Orioles catcher to homer in five straight games.

He is the 15th catcher in MLB history to homer in five consecutive games, according to Orioles.com. His home run, number eight, put the Orioles ahead of the Cardinals in the second, 3-2.

The rookie's streak began on Saturday in a game against the Mariners. He is now one home run shy of an MLB record held by New York Giants catcher Walker Cooper who homered in six straight games in 1947.

The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Cardinals 10-3 on Saturday to take the series. The Orioles now hold a 6-game lead in the AL East for the first time since 1997.
