Updated: Thursday, January 16 2014, 11:00 PM EST

The Orioles and RHP Bud Norris avoid arbitration by agreeing to a one-year deal worth around $5 million.

Norris was acquired at the July 31 trade deadline from the Astros in exchange for OF L.J. Hoes and LHP Josh Hader.

In 11 games (9 starts) with the O’s, Norris posted a 4.80 ERA allowing 61 hits in 50.2 IP.

Former Orioles closer Jim Johnson has also avoided arbitration with his current team, the Athletics. Johnson agreed to a $10 million salary for 2014.

That’s the number the O’s assumed he would get which is why they were willing to part ways with the All-Star.

Johnson had 101 saves over the last two season in Baltimore. Even though he led the American League with 50 saves in 2013, he also led all of baseball with nine blown saves .

The Birds acquired second baseman Jemile Weeks and catcher David Freitas in the deal.
